The process of being asked to consider employment in G to the phone screen took 7.5 months! This was with people rooting for me who had worked with me in the past.
It was a 45 minute phone screen. Call came on time. Interviewer was pleasant and articulate.
He was very particular about the duration and concluded very promptly. From the questions asked, however, it was evident he either did _NOT_ want to ask anything from my resume, OR, he had simply not read it.
Prominently missed questions were regarding managment/coordination/leadership etc. NOT A SINGLE QUESTION. It felt more like being evaluated as a new college grad.
Some perfunctory stabs at skill-set/domain analysis,
1. have you coded in systemVerilog (not recently)
2. what do you do hands-on (tool/work-flow development)
3. How? (Perl)
4. Why not Python. (I choose my language of comfort)
5. How do you release newer versions of tools? (after running regressions)
Here a discussion of work-flow (which is not about linguistic performance, would have been relevant since it has profound impact on speed and success of the company. But never happened. I attempted to bring it up but was cut off ('not what I asked')
There were open ended questions. I could hear the report being typed as I spoke. There was minimal feedback (it is important to direct conversations to areas you want covered in open ended discussions) and I had no satisfaction if I was convincing or met expectations.
2 main questions like so.
1. Suppose you were to verify a new ASIC, how would you do it?
2. How do you know when it is done
I did most of the talking here with no acknowledgement.
And a final, what do you have for me. He said, you can ask and I'll answer if I can. After this he responded 'I cant tell you that' to every question.
