I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Google in Nov 2013
Interview
45 minutes phone screen. Self Introduction and most recent project I have experienced.
Technical questions areas most strong. Questions are initially fundamental like what you see in paper certifications exams. i.e. OSPF LSA types, BGP best path selections, and BGP attributes etc. Then, dive into detail questions for technologies like loop preventions how MPLS works and some scenario base questions.
I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Google (Mountain View, CA) in Apr 2009
Interview
The technical phone screen inteview process was really dumb where a recruiter simply read you a set of preset questions similar to a network certification test. Some very detailed and tricky questions about things that you'd normally understand if you were in front of the computer, but you have to remember it by heart.
Study your IP addresses and all the routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, QOS) etc. Even if you know the answer and explain it in your own terms, because the recruiter is not technical, they will just mark it pass/fail if you dont have the exact answer they expect. Very dumb in my opinion.
