I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Google in Jan 2017
Interview
The interview process was pretty straight forward. I got an email via LinkedIn from Google recruiter asking if I was open for a role as a PM, I was not (I was already working for an Internet giant like Google), but since it was Google I wanted to give it shot and said yes. After couple of email exchanges, I decided to talk to the recruiter, she called me and explained every single process/step that happens in the recruitment/interview process (which I liked the most), she also sent me a follow up email with a lot of reading recommendation/material so that I can prep myself for the Interview, which was amazing.
Since I was in a remote location, my interview was over the phone.
After the overall process, I felt like I wasted my time and reason for that is, the recruiter mentioned that I didn't do bad, I was better than many others they interviewed before, but the person who took the Interview felt like I was not opening up on my ideas and holding my thoughts back which obviously anyone would do, but the only reason I hated the entire process was that just coz "one" person had this opinion they decided not to offer a role, ideally at least 3 people should interview to understand if a candidate is suitable or not, but here one person’s decision was enough for them to make a quick decision, sad policy, sad thinking.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
- If a basic maps has to be built, what all info you would gather initially?
- What would your first MVP look like?
- How would you calculate if traffic is normal v/s moderate v/s busy?
- What would you do if you have all data of World's traffic ?
Few other questions around how you would use maps to solve traffic problems.
I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Google
Interview
It was mostly straight forward. Entire process took around a week. Lots of pre-vetting prior to the actual interview. Since it is contracting position, just one in person interview with the hiring manager.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Google (Mountain View, CA) in Jan 2019
Interview
- Recruiter contacted me via email and we had a 30 minute chat where he talked about Google and PM at Google
- 1-hour phone interview with a PM (1-2 weeks later)
- On-site with 5 interviews (1 Eng, 4 PM) + lunch (non-evaluative) with a PM (~ 2-3 weeks later)
- Decision came ~ 1 week after on-site
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
PM interviews were mostly around products I use, and how I would improve them/develop a roadmap for them if I was the PM. Also some questions about past work experience as a PM as well as math-type problems (though they were usually woven into the product questions - no standalone brainteasers).
Eng interview involved designing a system and whiteboarding the solution while talking through it.
