I applied online. I interviewed at Hopper (Vancouver, BC) in Mar 2023
Interview
Had an initial video call with recruiter. I usually pass these without any problems. However the interviewer was not pleasant at all, just going through a list of questions. The interviewer simply replied "understood" after I replied to his questions. It felt like more of an interrogation rather than a conversation. Got an automated standard rejection e-mail the next day. The experience turned me off from the company and I was actually happy to receive the rejection.

Question 1
What would your manager say are your weaknesses/strengths
Initial call with recruiter call was plain offensive. Jumped straight into questions with no introductions or any pleasantries to make you feel welcome. A complete turn off for the type of company Hopper is. The recruiter repeated a list of background experience questions he probably asked everyone. Question after question - no pauses or follow up responses. Felt like a cop-prisoner interrogation. And a video call for an initial recruiter screen - really?

Interview
This is a role for their corporate travel product. Had a call with the recruiter who asked me to describe my experience, in which I described large backend initiatives I’ve delivered, then he proceeded to ask me if I had any backend experience. I didn’t follow up after that call because the recruiter was not friendly and did not present the company in a good way by having zero knowledge of backend while trying to recruit for backend.
