I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Huawei Technologies
Interview
Interviewed by r&d manager, was interviewing for researcher role but the interviewer was interviewing me for software engineer role. When I informed them of the correction, I was told the role requires Phd, but their phd people don't even have the basic skills to convert theory into practice, to refactor, and productionize their work, what is the point of a phd if they need help with everything. The company likes to mess around with candidates and use incorrect job ads that oversell on the role.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
No real technical questions, the interview was clueless and basically thought that everything requires a phd
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Huawei Technologies in May 2020
Interview
Basically just chatting and talking about past project experiences. No live coding and no detailed tech question was asked. Conducted on zoom. Got offer two days later. The interviewers are all very nice. Both English and Chinese will do.
I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Huawei Technologies (Dublin, Dublin) in Mar 2020
Interview
The interview process was fine, the people I met were friendly and the work seems interesting and challenging. The problems began during the offer stage. I interviewed for a full time role, but at the last minute, this was pulled and I was offered a contract instead.
They have a policy of only hiring full time employees if you come from certain big companies. Ability or experience doesn't matter. I passed all interviews and was recommenced for the job but it was blocked higher up the food chain for this reason, no other. I interviewed in good faith for a full time position, investing my time and efforts preparing for interviews, only to have the rug pulled from under me last minute. This was extremely unprofessional and reflects very poorly on the company.
The company should be upfront about this policy. While short-sighted and moronic, they are perfectly entitled to do this but candidates should be filtered out before interview and being told a job will be offered.
I would also note that the contract offered was below market rates for the position and responsibility.
