I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at IBM (Austin, TX) in Apr 2016
Interview
The process began with a portfolio submission. After review I was asked to apply with my resume. Next I was asked to complete a phone interview with a live code challenge. I was then invited down for an in-person group interview. This consisted of two one on one interviews (one was a live code challenge and the other was a resume/portfolio + personality review) and group work. The group work was a design problem that we were tasked to solve in about an hour. As part of the challenge, we were required to present our findings to a panel of reviewers (IBM Design employees) who offered feedback and asked questions. The group work was assessing collaboration and presentation skills.
Less than four days later I received a phone call with a job offer.

Anyone with a base understanding of JS and good understanding of HTML/CSS can pass the technical questions. I think your portfolio is more important, but personality is most important.
The interview process is more about personality and how you work/interact with others. Put your social game face on at the group dinner!
