I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Intel Corporation in Apr 2011
Interview
Phone Interview: described position and was asked standard questions concerning relocation, my interests, do I mind working long hours, etc. No technical questions besides a brief explanation of my research
Formal Interview: One day interview, though given four days total for travel and to see the surrounding area. Consisted of interviews with six different group members. First member went over basic life at Intel, the campus and the position and a small discussion of my research. Second interview was a technical presentation of my research in front of two group engineers; not difficult as long as you know your research. The last set of interviews was with various group leaders talking about the position again with very little focus on technical aspects of the position. More of an explanation of life at Intel; how the job would go, my responsibilities, etc. Overall, a formal interview with a very informal atmosphere.
Personal experience with microprocessors and electronics was minimum. Interview focused on skill sets and behavioral questions rather than technical.
