      Customer Assistant Interview

      Sep 1, 2017
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Lidl in Aug 2017

      Interview

Applied online via their careers page, answered a few simple questions and uploaded my CV with covering letter. About 4 days later I received an email to say they'd had a lot of interest and were still processing applications. Another 4 days later I had an email inviting me to an interview. The interview was held at a local hotel. Please don't go in to this interview thinking 'it's just Lidl, how can I not get a job at Lidl?' Genuinely one of the hardest interviews I've ever had. You could cut the atmosphere in the room with a knife, wether they do this on purpose to make you feel under pressure, who knows? The interview was held in what can only be described as a huge assembly hall, it was ice cold in there and all other interviewees were waiting at the back. This made me feel so nervous as they can quite clearly hear every word you say, and I could hear them discussing the previous person they'd interviewed before me, really put me off. I was interviewed by two men, one of which was probably the rudest man I'd ever met. He didn't seem to like ANY of my answers as to why I'd left my previous job or even why I'd recently moved to the area. All I got in response to every answer was 'yes I know that but WHY' I honestly felt like walking out in tears, but I held it together. Anyway, I was asked very basic questions like why I wanted to work for Lidl, do I have any unspent convictions and if I drove etc. Then I had to go through some scenario based questions which I honestly found difficult. Do your research on Lidl!!! I was asked if I shop there, I don't but said yes and then I was asked what my favourite product was they sell. Luckily, I had actually been in a few days prior to look around and had something from the bakery so I used that. It is honestly like they want you to come up with golden answers for everything. After waiting three days regardless of feeling like I totally sucked at the interview I actually got offered the job on a 20 hour contract!

      Interview

Very straightforward process. One person interviewed me and asked a few questions. Did not last more than an hour, if that. I had one interview and then an offer was made.

      Interview

Phone interview and then in person interview. Pretty quick and easy and doesn’t take long to hear back. Questions are pretty standard like ‘why Lidl?’ and ‘what’s your favourite item we sell’. Also a few scenario based questions.

I applied online. I interviewed at Lidl (Cardiff, Wales) in Jan 2026

      Interview

Really nice manager and chill atmosphere. Didn't ask me any scenario based questions or any that I had to provide a "star" like paragraph; more focused on how prepared/ committed/ able you are to do a lot of work.

      Question 1

Why Lidl? What hours can you do? Where can you see yourself working in the shop?
