      Sales Consultant Interview

      Jun 30, 2013
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Hongkong
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Meltwater (Hongkong) in May 2013

      Interview

I found the job on Linkedin and sent in my resume. Two days later, a Meltwater employee called me and asked if I had a minute. This turned into a 20 minute interview, during which he said he was very impressed with my resume. A couple days later, his supervisor called and I had essentially the exact same conversation with her. Went through my resume, extracurricular activities in college, what I like to do for fun. A day later, I was invited to the in-person interview which took place two week later. About 10 people showed up to the in-person interview, all recent grads. We met with about 7 of the Meltwater employees who led us into a room. They gave a presentation about the company and then asked if we had any questions. They then asked us to introduce ourselves. We stood and talked for 30- seconds. Then after we had to vote on one person we would choose to be our manager. After this, we had a group exercise in which we split into two teams. Both teams were given a company. We had to choose which Meltwater product we would sell them and explain why. After we given a topic to debate: Ipads versus Laptops and Google versus Facebook. Finally we had a lunch break. During lunch, each person received a phone call letting them know whether they had been invited back for a one-on-one interview. 3 other people and I were invited back. The morning session was very light-hearted but the tone of the one-on-one interview was completely different. I sat on one side of the table and the panel of interviewers on the other. They started by saying that they thought that I was domineering and were afraid that I would be overbearing as a coworker. They then went through what they thought I had done wrong that day. It involved the typical questions (What are your weakness? Why do you want to work at Meltwater?) but they were also some completely random questions (What keeps you up at night?) I felt like the entire interview was structured to throw you off and make you uncomfortable. I had to do a pretend cold-call to a company. I was told I had 30 seconds to prepare and that it was going to be in Chinese. Awesome. Then they gave me feedback and had me do another cold-call in English. The one-on-one lasted about an hour. At night, the company took the 4 finalists out to dinner which was nice. All in all, it was a fairly strange experience. However, the other candidates were very friendly and, if nothing else, I'm glad I did it for the experience.

      Interview

made it past the screening, learned from hiring manager they expect 150 dials per day, which is insane. you are a full cycle rep, how are you supposed to run any demos and close any deals if you are dialling 150 times per day. Not to mention the base pay is trash. what a joke.

      Interview

Very kind and supportive team! However, I felt that the interviewer was not quite engaged from the beginning. Overall, great experience and enjoyed the process. The interview left me feeling excited about the opportunity and what it would be like to work at the company!
