Product sense session, composed of a product sense question in which the candidate is asked to design a product and an analytic question, in which the candidate is asked to define a north star metric and a goal for the upcoming year
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Meta in Jan 2025
Interview
Reached out by a recruiter, Scheduled a phone call after a few days. Received interview scheduling email after the call. Scheduled the initial interview after a month. There were two interviews- analytical thinking and product sense.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
For analytical thinking interview: Set a success metric for instagram reels.
For product sense: Build a gardening app for meta
The director of product interviewed me. It was the most bizarre experience. He started off with a design question, which then morphed into a strategy question. He expected me to come up with the solution feature mission statement at the very beginning before I can breakdown the user segments and pain points. Basically, I believe he put his interview questions through an AI tool, got the AI answer, then expected me to simulate the answers how AI would. I am human. I need to break it down and process the question. And of course he switched it up on me midway asking a strategy related question. It was very unfair.
But, that day, Meta announced a mass layoff. So maybe that affected the interviewers and they didn't have their heart in it. That is no excuse through, for there is a living breathing person on the other side asking for a fair chance at the minimalist.
