I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Microsoft in Nov 2020
Interview
Very unprofessional throughout, I was contacted by one of their 'Technical Talent Sourcers' through LinkedIn. In the beginning it was good, decent communication and had some phone interviews. At the time I was also interviewing for other positions and had made it to some of the final rounds. The talent sourcer said that she wanted me to do some type of technical interview or assessment to help her place a job for me. I naively thought that this would mean that I would be given a shot to take it and perhaps get an opportunity to work at MS.
So I decided to bow out of the other interview process to pursue the MS opportunity. This was my big mistake, as the talent sourcer turned out to be entirely unreliable, unwilling to communicate to basic questions, and straight up ignored my multiple attempts at emailing her to see what the next steps to take the assessment were.
Ill never make the same mistake again with any recruiters or talent sourcers from MS and assume that theyre about as reliable as a chocolate teapot when it comes to moving through their interview process. It would be one thing if I completely failed an assessment and missed my shot, but the treatment I received was unprofessional at best.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Usual phone interview questions - why are you looking for a new job, why do you want to work for MS, etc
Expect a lengthy hiring process that can take at least two months from start to finish. In my experience, there was approximately one month of interviews followed by another month waiting for the final decision. Be prepared for a slow timeline, especially after completing all interview stages.

After submitting an online application, I received a HackerRank assessment after passing the resume screening stage, then I was rejected after completing the assessment and did not proceed to further interview rounds.
