I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Microsoft (Redmond, WA) in Oct 2015
Interview
Initial step was a 30-minute on-campus interview at my university. From there, took actually quite a while (3+ weeks) to hear anything back. This delay was the only negative part of the process in my eyes.
Once I heard back, they set up a date and confirmed that it would work with my schedule. They flew me out, gave me a great hotel room, rental car and reimbursement for food. Despite the rental car, a bus was available on the morning of the interview to bring me to Microsoft's campus so I didn't have to worry about driving.
The interview itself consisted of lunch, followed by 4 45-minute interviews. Between each interview was a 15 minute break to get snacks and drinks - this was extremely helpful in making this process easier.
Afterwords, the recruiter informed me that I would hear back by the end of that week, and then actually got back even earlier than that - this was great as I didn't spend a long time waiting for a response like with other companies.
Very well done interview process.

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Microsoft (Redmond, WA) in Jan 2015
Interview
Phone screen with a recruiter, four onsite interviews in Redmond - pretty typical process. I was interviewed by my future manager which was nice. They flew me out, got a nice hotel room, and had a lot of food throughout the day. I was in a group of other people interviewing which was kind of awkward at times, but overall fine. I interviewed on a Friday and got a call from the recruiter on Tuesday, so it was a quick process.
