      Recruiting Coordinator Interview

      Apr 17, 2016
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at MuleSoft (San Francisco, CA) in Mar 2016

      Interview

I had applied on LinkedIn and received an email to schedule a phone screen two weeks later. I should have known something was off when I received the email at 11PM on a Friday night. The recruiter was very nice when I spoke to her and we basically just went through my past work experience. She asked me questions about what my take away from college was. What would I do differently about that experience. This line of questioning was asked often about some of my past work experience. At the end of the interview she gave me feedback on how I did which I thought was great. She told me she was looking for personal growth which was why she asked me what my key take aways were. She also wanted to see any areas of process improvements that I had made but I didn't provide a very good example and asked if I had another one to share. This last feedback she shared with me took me by surprise, she told me a concern she had about me as a candidate was why it took me so long to find a real job after graduation. I was really surprised because I found a real job after 4 months. They also asked me for my GPA in college and I graduated 4 years ago. Some information that was shared with me about the position was that they wanted someone to come in and schedule from 7am - 7pm if needed because they have a high standard of who they hire so they interview a lot of people. They are a work hard play hard company. After the feedback I had received and the expectation of the role I did not really want to work for this company as they seem to just over work you.

      Question 1

What was your main take away from your college experience? What would you have done differently about that experience? Why did it take you so long to find a full time job after graduation? Could you explain a time when you had made a process change?

I appreciate your candid feedback. I'm sorry you had a negative experience. At MuleSoft, we pride ourselves on building teams that "do what it takes" to hit our aggressive growth goals. Sometimes, this may include working outside of normal operating hours so we can assist our team members in sites outside of the US. Please know we are working to improve the RC recruitment experience and have set clearer parameters around workload expectations.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at MuleSoft

      Interview

I applied online, then was contacted by the recruiter to set up an initial phone interview. The first phone interview was more of getting to know me and what I am looking for. Then i was contacted about speaking with the manager for a more detailed interview. During the second phone interview, the woman barely started speaking to me before she asked "What my biggest professional failure was". Seemed like a very negative way to start a conversation. I was then contacted about doing a scheduling exercise. It wasn't a very complex exercise, but it seemed they were looking for specific ways doing things. Following the exercise I was told they would not be moving forward. The reason being that I chose to do the scheduling how I have been doing for several years in the recruiting world. Overall, the reason I was turned down seemed to be a very simple teaching moment, not something that would prevent me from being successful in the role.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at MuleSoft in Apr 2018

      Interview

Overall, it was a very enjoyable process. The first interview, by phone, was more of a conversation. It was really just to get to know you and find out more about your interests in the job. The recruiter was friendly, thoughtful, and knowledgeable about the position and the company. In twenty or so minutes, I was informed that MuleSoft wanted to move forward. The second interview was more related to the job, with a few basic "tell me a time..." questions. This was also a good experience. In both interviews, I felt at ease and could be myself. After that, I was invited a few days later to perform an exercise mirroring the types of tasks I would be doing in the actual position. There is no way to prepare for it, so don't stress out about it. It was a challenging yet fun task. After a few more days, I was informed I wouldn't be advancing to what I assume would be the on-site interview. I attribute their decision not to move forward to how I performed on the exercise. The decision, however, was probably for the best, as I don't believe I exactly met their criteria. Although somewhat disappointing, I respect the decision and am grateful to have had the opportunity to interview with some professional and really cool people from a great company.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at MuleSoft (San Francisco, CA)

      Interview

Applied online then recruiter reached out to schedule a phone screen. The overall experience was by far the worst I have ever experienced. The recruiter, he was a male recruiter and fairly young, was not engaged or interested in speaking to me. The vibes I was getting were not good, so I withdrew my application after that conversation. A piece of advice for this gentleman, act like you care next time the candidates are your clients too.
