Long process, almost 2 months. Some parts good, some parts frustrating.
Applied online. HR set up an interview. Didn't get called twice after setting up a time. That's unprofessional in my book. Got some weak excuses about time zones. Finally, did a routine phone screen, followed by a exercise at home using tableau. Just a test of simple stats and BI basics and give you a chance to use Tableau.
A week later, talked to the prof services hiring manager. Good talk; past work experience, BI skills and some behavioral questions. Seemed like they were judging whether you've the right personality traits along with the necessary analytics/big data work experience and skills.
Next week, 2 tech screens by peers. Interesting friendly tech talk, some design questions, some product questions, some digging into past work experiences. No gotchas. Enjoyed it. After that, had to do a demo presentation using tableau on webex to the team. Challenging but fun. Spent few days preparing for it, it was a good chance to show my creativity and skills. Tableau lends itself well to data discovery and analysis. Did well, I thought. Sure enough, got invited to Seattle on a beautiful summers day, met the team, got a tour of their office in Fremont. All very nice. Thought I'd the offer in the bag. Week later, found out there was some work auth stuff that they wouldn't do. It went south from there. Having come so far, I was disappointed.
Overall, it was a good learning experience. They seem like a good company, have a great product and culture. Did get the sense that they were dealing with some growth issues, processes need to be ironed out. Some people I met felt like they were swigging the kool aid but most seemed like smart and genuinely nice people.
