I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Tesla (Palo Alto, CA) in Aug 2022
Interview
A technical recruiter reached out. We had a call where they softly felt out my background and then asked for a resume. The second call was with an experienced engineer who really wanted to get into the weeds of my technical knowledge. After that they had me take a 1 hour written exam where they asked many general engineering open ended exam questions (statics, strength of materials, etc), along with questions about the kind of engineering stuff you learn on the job (manufacturing techniques, drafting markups). I did poor on the test and things didn’t proceed past that.

Question 1
They had an experienced engineer speak with me, he asked me something that I specialized in, and then tested my knowledge on the subject.
It's all about knowing the principals of engineering. Make sure you study beams and know all the formulas. They really like to make sure you know all the fundamentals and can ask questions that test your understandings of physics and materials.

Question 1
How would you go about designing a kettle, break down the design details.
Initially there is a resume screening followed by several technical interviews. Opportunities to present prior work and learnings. Individual interviews by panellists. Finally HR screening rounds happen. Overall enjoyable and interesting process to go through for employment.
