I applied online. I interviewed at Tesla (Denver, CO) in Feb 2018
Interview
It was an interview. It was the kind of interview where you could feel it was obvious that you were in an interview. They asked questions, I answered questions. They asked me if I had any questions. I had no questions. It was an interview
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
If a bus left Dallas at 3:47 PM and a Boat left Omaha at 4:22AM. At what point would a pear and canned peaches be opened and served to a horse in Greece?
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Tesla (New York, NY)
Interview
4 interwievs. First two over phone, last two with Microsoft teams.
Felt very efficient. Only took 4 weeks total since the first call.
Very friendly and could always call someone to answer my questions.
They seemed to go more on your potential and how quickly you learn rather than knowing the job before you start
I am not a mechanic, so i had to motivate how my experiences would relate to this job, and also how my experiences showed that i could work with basically anything given the training and tools.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Tesla (Dania, FL) in Jun 2017
Interview
I applied for the position on the Telsa site. Months later I was contacted by a recruiter on Linked in, at the same time as my co worker at my current job. After interview with recruiter I was moved on to an in person interview.
I Interviewed with the shop foreman. It went very well. I was told to expect a call from the service manager who was opening the new dealership in Miami I was applying for. I got the call while I was driving home from the interview. We spoke for about 45 mins in my car on the drive home. The interview went so well that after the first 10 minutes he told me he had already made up his mind and wanted me to start with him and the team he was forming when the new dealer opened, and that I should expect the hiring package email soon. The next half hour we just talked about Tesla and SpaceX. It was one of the best interview experiences I've ever had. My co worker also got the job the same day. The manager knew that we already worked together and wanted us to be on his starting team.
Two weeks went by and neither of us had received the e mail yet. We attempted to contact the manger with no response. Another two weeks went by, my co worker received the email and his starting date and I did not. I immediately left a voice mail for the manager asking for an update and ten minutes later received a call from him saying hes not sure what went wrong but the hiring package was not sent out to me and that they had already filled the position with someone else. Needless to say I was not happy, as my wife and I were already planning our future around my new job, and due to some HR screw up it was out the window.
The main issue I see with the company is there is no way to get an interview except for a recruiter or their website which they completely ignore. I have never heard of anyone getting an interview based on their actual job application. Its only recruiters, and after their part of the job is done, there is no way to get back into the job process.
On a side note, I was already a master technician with 10 years experience and EV experience in a high end European brand. It was not my knowledge or interviewing skills that stopped me from landing the job. It's really dis heartening to not get a job based on a clerical error. Maybe it was for the best. I'll probably never know because I have not been able to get in touch with anyone doing hiring from inside Tesla.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Most questions revolved around my experience and my knowledge of the company and their mission. I don't remember being asked anything very technical.
