I was called by HR to conduct a phone interview. At the beginning I was told to just answer the question. No clarification of questions, only repeated the questions if needed. I felt like I was being interviewed by a brick wall! I thought it was over before it started. A week later I was called for an in store interview. I waited for 15 minutes before the Assistant manager came into the employee waiting room. He informed me that I was scheduled to be interviewed by someone else who couldn't meet with me. It seemed like the interview was a success. I asked for the job and was told the manager does the hiring. He said the interview was a good one and I was called for a second interview about a week later. My second trip to the store was not an interview as was stated, but a fill-in-the-blank process for approving a background check, availability, etc. I asked the interviewer if she had any questions to ask me since this was supposed to be an interview. She said no because I answered all the questions on my first trip there. I asked her for the job and was showed a stack of paperwork. She had to see all the applicants. Well, dumbfoundedly I left the room. On my way out I must have seemed lost and confused because a nice sales person asked if I needed help. I explained my predicament, the position I applied for, and wondered if this was the hiring protocol of Home Depot. Just as I was finished blurting out my frustration, a young woman walked by. She looked like a high school kid. He pointed at her and said she was the new hire for the garden center job! Clarification was instant! Home Depot therefore was going through the protocol to satisfy the legal process of checks and balances. They had absolutely no interest in hiring me. I will up date if anything changes. It has been over two weeks since my last communication with Home Depot. I have not heard either way from Home Depot. I know that I don't fit the typical Home Depot profile and knew that I had a disadvantage going in. This location had no Asian-Caribbean women! The employees are friendly, respectful, and helpful. I frequent this location for many of my supplies for my endless DIY projects. The first manager seemed caring. He worked for HD for about 15 years and said he was happy with the company. I can't say much for the second manage as our communication was too brief. She was inundated with a stack of paperwork on her desk. I was a number to her and one less off her pile!
