      Lot Tech Interview

      Sep 13, 2012
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at The Home Depot

      Interview

Within two days of submitting an application online, I received a phone call asking if I would like an interview. Accepting the offer, I went into a one-on-one interview with the store's manager, who sat down with me and asked me a series of questions, mostly about providing customer service, and how I felt about doing physical labor. Shortly after the interview, I received a phone call regarding orientation for the new position, where everyone in the entire district that would be new hires would be attending, to ask questions and understand what working at Home Depot would entail.

      Question 1

"You realize that, as a college graduate, you are overqualified for this position?"

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at The Home Depot (Los Angeles, CA) in May 2016

      Interview

Got in early, waited in line for ~5 min. Lady was pretty bored but I could see see had a good rapport with her coworkers. Sat down in casual beige pants, clean shoes and a semi-formal long sleeve shirt.and waited for the interview. Not a bad process; we zeroed in on how I was a rookie job seeker looking for his first. Most people flail at that point, when the dreaded "why should we hire you?" came up. I turned it around, saying that I was a typical college kid with zero real-world experience looking to shape up. Said I was in it for the experience and the skills I could pick up there. She said how does she know if I work hard or if I'm a slacker? "Naturally, I don't intend to come back to this [HR/hiring] office unless it's for a promotion. I know my situation going in as someone at the bottom, so there's no need to fake anything. I come in with a learning attitude and nothing but my work ethic to prove me. If I didn't want the job, I may as well have saved us both the trouble and not come in today."
