      Sales Associate Interview

      Feb 4, 2013
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Oak Ridge, TN
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at The Home Depot (Oak Ridge, TN) in Jan 2013

      Interview

After applying online, I received an email the next day letting me know the Home Depot Retail Staffing Center would call. They called the day after that and did a brief phone interview (I understand that most interviewing experiences start with this pre-screening). A computer asked me if this was a good time then asked me basics like if I would be interested in the job, able to provide good customer service, etc. Then it transferred me to a person who asked me about four basic questions and informed me of the position I was being interviewed for. He recorded all my answers on a computer. He asked about specific times I worked as a team in my previous jobs, times I went out of my way for a customer, if I could meet the basic physical requirements (climbing a ladder, sitting and standing for long periods). Afterwards, he informed me my interview was in five days at my local store. I arrived for my interview and told the customer service desk I was here. They called a man from the back, who I assumed to be some type of manager and I was interviewed in a small computer room in the back. The interview was quick, easy, and typical. He was very friendly and easy to talk to. He asked questions determining personality and customer service, nothing about home improvement. He said they asked all applicants the same questions. He repeated some of the phone interview questions. He said that at their store, they tried to interview three people per position and he had more interviews scheduled later in the day. He said he would call me at the end of the week whether there was another interview or not. A few days after he said he'd called, I called them. I was connected to a different person who said that, in general, Home Depot would call back if they were interested and that if I've had no call yet it meant they were still deciding or the position had been filled. After another week or two, I assumed I didn't get the job. In my opinion, it seemed like a nice place to work with some good benefits for part time positions. He said the hours were very flexible and could be on the heavy end for part time people, 30 hours a week or more in the spring. It sounded like the hours were never lacking.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

What would you do if a customer was being rude to you? What would you do if you couldn't help a customer and no one else was around to help them either?

They asked several questions but due to the fact that I was so over qualified...it was 'how soon can you start".
