I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at The Home Depot (Newark, DE) in Jul 2013
Interview
First, I had two phone interviews. The first one were a few questions about whether I was bilingual and quick yes and no questions. The second one was with an actual person that asked me about my previous customer service experience. At the end of that, I automatically got to schedule a in-store interview. The in-store interview was very chill. Was asked a few questions from this standard questioner book by one of the managers. The questions were not difficult -- just mostly asked about customer experiences and previous job I've held. At the end, he explained the job I was interviewed for and the pay and then gave me a drug test to get taken. Once the drug test came through, I got a call to come to a new-hire orientation at the store.

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at The Home Depot (San Antonio, TX) in Jan 2011
Interview
Very quick and easy. If they can tell you are ready to work and be committed, you'll have no issues. Retail is retail, so if you're ready to learn a lot, and learn it quick, you'll do great. The key focus is customer service and growing the brand name.
