The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at The Home Depot (Hackettstown, NJ) in Mar 2012
Interview
I applied online after seeing banners in the stores promoting employment opportunities. One day after I applied I received a message telling me to call a 1-866-xxx-xxxx number. I called and was directed to a staffing center associate who asked me 3 interview type questions and then said I may be hearing from them. One week later I received another phone message to call and was prompted to schedule an interview with extremely limited time slots.
I arrived for the interview as scheduled, but the hiring manager was busy with other applicants so another departmental floor manager took control and interviewed me. He asked me one question and said I answered all the questions he was supposed to ask. We spent more than an hour talking about our past experiences in project management. I presume my interview experience was not typical.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
I was asked about my previous experience as an assistant project manager. I was told my answer to that question answered all the standardized answers. The we spent more than an hour going over our past project experiences.
The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at The Home Depot (Cape Coral, FL) in Mar 2012
Interview
Filled out application on company website. Was called by retail staffing and phone interviewed with standard five questions most retail companies are using now about describing times when you helped customers in other jobs and people in your life and solutions you came up with. (be ready for that). Had interview #1 in store with mid level supervisors / leads (2) with same standard 5 question robot quiz, then had interview #2 with store manager days later who asked my goals in the next 5 years, and further, why did I want to work for Home Depot, etc. Took drug test and had to call repeatedly though to get orientation/hire date which took about 2 weeks to get. Overall a fairly decent experience. The people there (non-management) seem miserable, but low pay retail and scheduling that revolves around how much your dept. sales vs. how many hours you get to work is to be expected with a so-so attitude about working there I guess. I'm just happy to have been picked to have a job and a chance though and will be happy as such.
Interview questions [2]
Question 1
Describe a time when you solved a problem with a customer or family member? I think this was the question almost...
More questions similar to question #1, just worded differently. Alot of companies are doing this standardized test, so once you do it, it will be redundant.
