I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at UPS
Interview
simple and straight to the point, it kind of sucks because you're viewed as another pawn at first but what job doesn't do that at first. They also interview in very large groups so it was hard to get any individual communication with the hiring manager until you were pre selected for the job
I applied through college or university. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at UPS (Athens, OH)
Interview
I was interviewed while I attended Ohio University. I was asked basic interview questions that were job specific relating to punctuality and customer service experience. The interview was fairly brief and lasted only 20 minutes roughly. After the interview I was asked to take a personality test and fill out some other background information. I was asked to attend a mass orientation and did so.

Question 1
Describe a time you were faced with a difficult customer and how you reacted.
I applied in-person. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at UPS (San Diego, CA) in Jan 2011
Interview
You show up to a group interview of 30+ people. They pull you aside in groups where you answer questions, then follow it up with individual, one on one questions. If they like you they bring you back for a more personal interview. You get a start date, receive training for a week, then you're out there working. What you learned in the videos and what you are taught first-hand can vary. i.e. knocking down walls of packages to speed up truck unloading as opposed to using the step-stool to unload packages safely one by one as in the safety video.
