I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at US Navy (Phila, PA)
Interview
You approach recruiters at any station, and can begin the dialogue and learning about what options are available to you. You will take an ASVAB test to determine your cursory knowledge of mathematics, English, science, mechanics and logic. Based on your scores, you enter into Delayed Entry until you go to boot camp.

They asked me about my history with drugs, violence, law enforcement and education.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 6 months. I interviewed at US Navy in Jun 2010
Interview
On a whim I walked into the Air force recruiting office and was walked over to and introduced to the Navy recruiter, as I had too many dependents. After some basic questioning, it was clear that I was eligible to enlist. An initial urine sample was taken right there and tested for pot, coke, and meth using a combination testing strip. Next we discussed my interests and aptitude and a practice ASVAB showed that I could do anything I wanted in the NAVY. I was scheduled for an ASVAB test at the MEPS station in Dallas a week out. The recruiter drove me there. After the test was administered and my scores known I was directed to a Navy Career Counselor to discuss the enlistment contract in detail. After agreeing to the details I was given an enlistment/entry date.
The interview process was not an interview at all. You will meet with a recruiter, they will lie to you about scheduling issues with the job you want in order to put you into something that they need to fill in order to meet their quotas.
