I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at US Navy (Pittsburgh, PA) in Jun 2010
Interview
There is no interview to promote to Captain, we promote from within based on a career of sustained superior service, especially at sea. There are, however, interviews for gaining your original commission as an Ensign.

Question 1
Why do you want to do this and what qualifies you to lead men and women in combat, especially those with more time and experience than you will have. (Note that below I listed the date of my interview as June 2010. That's because the drop down list doesn't go back to 1987)!
I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at US Navy in Feb 2010
Interview
The interview process was very simple. Standard question and answers. Be very cautious when setting your salary, this is a government position and they try and pull a bunch of fast ones to get you to work at a lower GS level than you should. Also watch out for mass hirings where you may be just thrown in because they may need employees.

All standard so... What is one of your weaknesses?
I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at US Navy (Oak Harbor, WA)
Interview
FEDJOBS.gov posting. Applied through FEDJOBS.gov, informed by phone of top 5 candidacy and emails to schedule 1 day of interviews. 30-45min face to face interview, then acoustic analysis exam. Interview was a panel/group with the CO, XO, Training Officer (point of contact for scheduling, etc.), and senior civilian. Standardized questions for all candidates, round-robin format for asking the questions. Positive atmosphere, enjoyable experience.

The rest were challenging, but enjoyable.
