I interviewed at US Navy (Bozeman, MT) in May 2011
Interview
Hiring and interview is done through a recruiter, probably at your local mall. You go through a list of benefits and things you can do through the military, and a list of disqualifying factors, including drugs, a history of clinical depression or anxiety, kidney stones, etc. You can get waivers for most factors.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 12 months. I interviewed at US Navy (Richmond, VA) in Jan 2011
Interview
Just went in to talk to a recruiter to see what the requirements were and he told me graduate high school and stay out of trouble. Then I took a pre test. There was your basic math and reading questions. I did well on that and waited a year to actually join and take the real asvab test because I was in the eleventh grade.
Not a very difficult hiring process, went to the recruiter, did the test, picked a job and shipped off to bootcamp. The guys at my station were very helpful they gave me a lot of insight on what to expect from bootcamp and the fleet. I had a very good transition from civilian to military life.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Trying to be cleared from my security clearance was very hard while I was in boot camp, they want to know everything about your family, your expenses, everything you have financed. It was hard to keep everything in tact while being questioned on the spot.
