I applied through college or university. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at University of Cambridge
Interview
The interview was quick. Questions were not very technical. I think they take people base on area of expertise. I think it differs from lab to lab. I know some labs ask very technical questions.
Single interview for summer research position
Good questions - focussed on knowledge of field and technical knowledge
Nice intervewer
overall highly rate and would interview again
drawback was that interview was quite short, would like more time
Given enough notice before the interview, told who was interviewing and overall a very straightforward. I would recommend. Feedback was also given at the end. The questions asked were relevant to the position.
