All-in, the interview process with Upwork was ~8 hours between phone interviews and the onsite interview. I enjoyed my conversations with the team very much. The red flag occurred after my onsite interview... the recruiter went radio silent for close to two weeks. I followed up, to then receive a DQ note via email. Yikes! It's unprofessional and a poor candidate experience to drop communication with a finalist, not least of which to DQ them via email. When my HR peers in the Bay Area ask about my interview experience with different companies, Upwork always stands out for that reason. I hope this was a one-off and not common practice. With unemployment rates as low as they are, candidates have the upper hand and any misstep with their experience can make or break whether they stay engaged, or choose to engage again in the future.
