The interview is very intrusive, multiple rounds of interview is involved. There would be quite a few rounds where creative thinking and judgemental answers need to be provided. Some times folks from different streams tend to interview and check if the individual suits for an alternative team.

Question 1
Technology based questions more to do with cloud based technologies
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at VMware (Palo Alto, CA) in Jul 2016
Interview
I was supposed to be interviewed for "Python Developer - NSX Management Plane - Staff Engineer". To start with, the recruiter sent me a link to HackerRank online coding challenge. After preparing for the challenge, when I opened the link, I found that there was no option to select "Python" as my language of choice (even though the position was that of a Python developer).
So I sent out an email to the recruiter asking for a new link where I can select Python. However, it seems that the recruiter blatantly ignored my emails. I tried reaching out to him on LinkedIn and also through HackerRank (where I had to create a support ticket for the issue) but I got no response at all.
It is extremely disappointing that a reputed company like VMware can be so ruthless to experienced candidates who really want to go through the interview process but are being treated as if the company does not care about them. I understand that they might have already found another candidate. But is it so hard for their recruiter to communicate what exactly was the situation?
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at VMware (New York, NY) in Jun 2016
Interview
Applied to an open position online and was contacted approximately two days later by a recruiter. Basic phone screen questions: tell me about your background, why do you want to leave your current company, and why VMware?
I was set up with the hiring manager and spoke over the phone. Several days later I was asked to skype with a director and another analyst that would have been my peer. A couple days after that a different recruiter reached out and set up a final interview via Skype with the hiring manager.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
As other people have mentioned there is a lot of resume specific questions. I specifically was asked about the systems I had experience with (SAP and Hyperion).
The questions outside of those based off your resume are just typical behavioral interview questions. Nothing that was out of left field as long as you practiced those types of questions and have some examples in mind.
