Interview
I applied for a TAM role at VMware. During the first 4 weeks of the process, I had a total of 5 interviews. Second interview was with the hiring manager. I felt I didn't perform exceptionally well during that interview but still had positive feedback from the interviewer and HR afterward. All interviews had positive feedback and would recommend me for either the position or at least continuing the process. Then, I was left waiting for almost 4 weeks after the last interview with no answer to my follow up other than that we were all waiting on the hiring manager. Then, HR called me saying that the role had been offered previously by the hiring manager to someone else without her knowing. She couldn't offer any feedback on why my candidacy had been rejected (for self improvement) since I was the top prospect in her book. She supposed it might have been due to the fact that the other candidate might have some contact with a client or something like that.
Here is my opinion on the matter:
- I didn't have a good interview with the hiring manager. That's ok, it happens. But, at least, give some feedback if that is the case!
- I understand that there might be a better candidate for any number of reasons. What I really don't appreciate is taking 4 weeks to get back with the answer while the offer was made to that other candidate. I had other opportunities during that time that I refused thinking that I had a good case with VMware.
- Considering that the hiring manager just went and offered the job to someone else without HR even knowing about it, it clearly give me the feeling that the whole process was rigged and that I just lost my time.
Even though HR told me that I would be a top prospect should another TAM position open in my area, I am clearly not sure if I am interested in working for VMware anymore.

Interview
Polite, kind, and intelligent interviewer! Knew her stuff and was seemingly interested in my opinions and knowledge on topics. Asked me both technical and nontechnical questions and was very informative
