I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Walmart (Phoenix, AZ) in Mar 2011
Interview
I applied a few times in the past, but this time I resubmitted my application and got a call the next day and had an interview set up for the following day. I arrived 15 minutes early and didn't have to wait long. First I interviewed with a supervisor of some sort for the department I would be working in. She was very friendly and could tell I was a little nervous so she tried to make me feel comfortable. She first had me go over my application to make sure everything was correct. Then asked a little about my work history, which worked perfect with the position they were hiring for and she really liked that. Then she asked about 4 or 5 situational questions. About a time you had to complete a request from someone and how did you complete that request? A time you had to do a project what were the steps you took to get it done and how did it turn out. A few others i cant remember. Then she walked me back out to site to store area while she inputted my information in the computer before i met with the assistant manager of the dept. Met with the assistant manager of the department, She was very nice as well. She didn't ask me any interview questions really. She did ask why i was leaving my other job tho, I told her I was looking for a job when i can learn and grow with the company. but that was after she already offered me the position. We went over pay and signed papers for the background check and drug screening. And i was on my way. Haven't started yet tho as my interview was just today.
Also a note: if you have another job in the same type of job as the position you are applying for they will not let you work for them if you plan on keeping it. Example: you work at a clothing store and will be working in apparel at walmart. Its a conflict of interest. But if you were in the grocery department or cashier it is okay as long as both are not the same.
Interview questions [2]
Question 1
Tell me about a project you had to do? What steps did you take to do it and how did it turn out?
Phone interview and then asked to come in for in person interview. The hiring manager asked typical interview questions. Why do you want to work here? And asked bout scheduling availability,
There was a lot of questions but overall it went pretty decent. They were your standard interview questions. I am happy with the outcome but maybe I could do better next time.
The interview was brief but straight forward. I interviewed with someone and was done within 15 minutes. They asked a few questions about myself and past job experience. Then I progressed to the next steps in the hiring process. The next steps where orientation.
