His first question was more of a statement about how they couldn't afford to fly me in for an interview and that he wasn't sure if they could hire someone without meeting them in person. I thought this was a fairly rude and probing way to see if I wanted the job. The message here was that he wanted to contact me for some reason, but that he was skeptical that the conversation would be worth his time.
