How would I defuse situation. I would get the customers explanation of the problem and solve it in a very nice and understanding too the best of my ability and if I could not resolve the problem then I would call one of the store manager to see if they could help the customer resolve it. My understanding of any problem between the store and a customer is the customer is always correct. I would hope that I would be able to make them happy with the end circumstances so that they would have nothing but a good feeling about the store and the employees helping them.

The interview was almost 8 years ago. I don't remember ANY of the questions.
I can't peg a single question as the most difficult, but the areas most often troubling for department supervisors are dealing with difficult or unmotivated associates and knowing how and when to discipline and improve them. Another huge issue is understanding how to deal with an irate customer (regardless of whose fault the issue may be).
No difficult question, decade years experience in the field, the question was not a problem.
the interview questions on the first round were more structured.(STAR questions) the second interview guy basically did not follow the script and went off the cuff with a couple of questions of which I easily answered. the manager had the packet and drug test ready to hand to me at that time. although he could not because the salary was not in line with what I was expecting and needed to survive.
