Questions were predominantly about my news sense and how/where I gather news.
The recruiter sent an attachment containing five assignments. He said that providing work was the first step in the process.m and to contact him with any questions. I answered that I was happy to provide samples and references, but had a few questions. I asked him if we could have a quick conversation by phone. He did not respond. I realized that the work would take 4-5 hours to complete, and had a firm due date. The work was also for an assistant position, entry level--and I have far more experience. The salary estimated here on Glassdoor is around half what I am making now. Also, I am happy to do work on the spot as a part of an interview process, and have done so--but only after at least a phone interview. Most of the times I have done this, I had an in-person interview, and was left with a laptop and time to complete a sample work assignment. I am very wary of a request for very real work with absolutely no way to contact the recruiter than through Dropbox files. I found the recruiter on LinkedIn with a long history in pharma recruiting and a statement connected to that field--not about Vista, or education, or editing, or languages. Is he real? I very strongly suspect that this process of requesting extensive work from experienced people is more of a request for free work than an interview.
