How would you describe your management style?
What are your thoughts on millennials and what they mean for the business (back in 2015)
Basic questions, some strategic, some tactical. Normal probing questions on experience or "what would you do." I probed and discovered unresolved political issues/power struggles that made a jump into St. George's, risky and unattractive. St. George's is a second tier med school with some brand / reputation issues (foreign liabilities of regional / location of its campus). One-on-One the interviews went well--and they seemed to be alright, but as a group, they seemed like an improbable team. They had internal differences of opinion (strategic) from the top and role architecture was unclear... so you have to be alright with ambiguity. None of the interviewers could answer one straightfoward question on the budgeting process and authority/approvals process (that showed cracks, and signs of a power struggle) caused by a change in that budgeting process (control/power based on how they responded separately). Stepping "out of the frying pan, and into the fire" came to my mind. My situation isn' tperfect, but St. George's would have been likely a worse situation. Absolutely no issues and relief actually when I was not offered the role. I feigned interest but in reality I just wanted to see how far they would take the interview process because I had told the headhunter of all these issues--I don't like to say, "no I'm not interested" after 1 or 2 meetings because it's difficult to probe deeply to get a full picture. In the end they were never able to answer my question and that said enough. At the end of my 3rd and 4th interviews, I was a little worn and felt much less interest than when I met my first 2 interviewees. "Trust your gut" I told myself, but I feigned interest to the head-hunter. At the end it worked out. No offer. And a relief. I would have been tempted for more money but a bad situation.
