To guage understanding of the level of technical knowledge and familiarity with the system. In-person interviews were primarily character based.

Then on-site interview: still more questions directly related to your qualifications, technical skills, and some of these could be derived from your presentation; and some behavioral questions like that how you process when having a disagreement with someone, or how you document your codes and analysis.
