Are you interested in going to Japan
Say you are out with your co-workers. One of them gets very drunk and says to you, "[Name], I hate Americans and American soldiers. American soldiers are rapists and killers." How do you respond?
Okinawa is very different from the rest of Japan. How will you experience Japanese culture if you are sent there?
Your form mentions that you are a vegetarian. How will you find food during your first few weeks, given that the Japanese diet primarily consists of fish and meat?
This position often includes a lot of downtime between classes and during holidays. Are you okay with that, and how will you stay busy?
What would you do if the JTE made a mistake in class?
General questions, and some personal questions (derived from application packet/information) - why JET in particular - why are you interested in going to Japan - why are you interested in teaching (in Japan) - Who was someone that inspired/influenced you in your education - mental/physical health related questions; are you able to cope/live well in another culture/country - how would you cope with difficulties (culture shock, mental/health challenges, homesickness, etc.) - Example lesson plan. e.g. Describe where you live to students with limited English proficiency, and use direction terms as the core of your lesson. Because I had mentioned on my application and in my interview that I had studied Japanese for several years, there was also a few questions in Japanese. - Kind of random, but generally easy/opinion-based questions (e.g. how did you get interested in learning Japanese, how will you get students interested in learning English, etc.)
If a student asks you "what is American" how would you respond? (given the context of our previous talk, it was implied to be in a cultural sense)
How would you teach body parts to kids?
