Finally, he was asking me what I would do if a student was behind in courses and I explained how I would handle the situation with the student. Apparently compassion and understanding are frowned upon? I would explain that understand what the student is going through and might have some resources and suggestions. He literally said, "Students don't care if you went through this. This isn't about you." Actually, letting a student understand that I can relate makes a big difference in student retention. I have taught student success courses for over 5 years now and I know I would excel at the job.
