Product Director Interview Questions
1,994 product director interview questions shared by candidates
There were some difficult questions posed regarding what specifically I would be able to bring to the company.
Who else did you talk to before me and what did they tell you?
There were 0 questions on product design and improvements. Nowhere they mentioned metrics. Can you imagine? Most questions were like, if you were in a situation X and when was the last time Y happened. If you have sufficient experience you will be able to ace it. The so-called most senior person in the product in the company is a new joinee who couldn't join the call on time and had to postpone. This was a red flag given he was the one dictating time of the interview. His questions were only focussed on problems he appeared to be stuck with in the company. So this company wherever relevant is out to suck whatever value you bring to the table. The CTO told me of how elementary their processes are and how they are still not able to solve coordination between tech and product and that their code breaks often. Any experience product person should keep away. After taking 5 rounds in 3 days they went MIA for 14 days and came back to tell me after a couple of follow-ups that they have decided to not go ahead with the offer. The biggest red flag was that the justification given for this was exactly opposite to the feedback I got by the interviewees. Overall, the interview was easy and most interviews were mostly conversations which are hard to screw up honestly. I don't know how a head of product in this organisation that comes from a operational background is able to make product decisions without product thinking, so much so that they couldn't ask one product insight or depth question in the interview. They kept insisting that even as a director I was supposed to write PRDs (again a red flag) since they did not have enough people and that even VPs write PRDs. Since I had enough hands on experience, I did not shy away from dirty work but as a culture this is a sign that work is not sufficiently segregated and specially PMs have to do a lot of this as well as follow up because every other function is just burdened with work. It is hard to get things done in such company culture. Please make sure you talk to some alumni and ex/current employees to get a good picture around this company. DON'T FALL IN THE TRAP without adequate research or you'll regret saying Yes.
