Public Policy Associate Interview Questions

314 public policy associate interview questions shared by candidates

The 3rd interview in particular was an onslaught of behavioral questions, right after the other. The 2nd and 3rd interview repeated many of the same questions: --why do you want this job --how do you stay organized --tell me about a time you had a conflict + what you did to address it + what you learned from it (lots of three part questions) --tell me about a time you managed competing priorities --tell me about a time x, y, and z (I can't remember all of the questions they asked) --why should we hire you Honestly, I wish these interviews had felt more like a conversation. Just disappointing to get these same old questions that clearly they just googled and are asking candidates in a relatively thoughtless manner. I wish orgs would ask more thoughtful and customized questions and show more curiosity. Writing assessment was analyzing a bill and writing a memo (had 1.5 hours to complete it). HR forgot to send it to me at the designated time, and so I had to call and remind her to send it. Not an ideal experience. Overall, worrying HR convo; mediocre interview experience; a bummer to get ghosted.

I was asked basic HR questions during the interview. It's important to articulate how your skillsets are directly applicable to the role, especially highlighting any experience managing individuals in an official capacity. Additionally, the primary HR contact, at least the one I spoke to, had years of experience working with the organization but was in a consulting capacity. This aspect is worth considering as you apply, as it could impact the timeline of your application process.
