There were several phone interviews, and also a day of on-site interviews at MemSQL's HQ. The questions were fairly standard. They wanted to make sure I was the right fit for the role and the company culture.

Just before I changed my profile to open to work, I received an inmail from a recruiter. They were recruiting for a role in a cybersecurity company I have never heard of. I visited glassdoor to check a bit more, and the company had a 3.0 score. Normally I won't eat at a restaurant with a 3.0 score, and the same holds true in working for a company who rates low. But, the position was interesting and it matched my skillset quite closley. I started to review the company, and they really didn't have anything novel. Their security suite was barely known in the market, and googling the name pulled up just a handful of hits. As in, just a handful. Yet they have been in the market since 2013. A 250 person company. They had recently integrated AI into their product and from what I could see, it as well, wasn't too much to get excited about. I watched a few of their recorded webcasts, and they were less than stellar. But here is where I though I could make a difference. I have plenty of exeperience in developing content and demos, and often get accolades for them. The company had recently gone through a platform change, and focusing on enterprise customers, and they weren't making their numbers. The recruiter mentioned that they had a requirment that candidates had worked for Splunk, and I had that. They first tried recruiting using their internal HR, and were not able to find candidates. They then hired a headhunting firm, who, I found out during the process, was too busy to focus on the role, so they in turn hired a third party from there. The recruiters had submitted 7 candidates and the hiring manager turned all of them down prior to an interview. So, I interviewed. I'm generally a pretty good read of the room, and the first inerview went well.In fact, at the end of the call, the manager shared with me they weren't making numbers. He seemed eager to move me on to the technical interview, and I just needed to give him a day as he just got off vacation to set everything up. Four days later, I got a notice that I had failed the technical interview. Odd, I had not had a technical interview. I called the recruiter, and this is when I discovered that they were a third party, to a third party.. recruiting for the role. I was put in contact with the original third party (I think I have this correct), who expalined that this was very likely a mistake. And in fact, it had happened with another candidate he had put through, where they had told him he was rejected, and in fact, it wasn't the case. As you can imagine, none of this is giving me any confidence in the process. This was on a Thursday, but he would be unable to provide an answer until at least the following tuesday. In fact, he then asked me if I could as the person who scheduled me where the process was. In the end, they decided to pass on me. I serisouly have no idea why, as that feedback wasn't provided. But here is the moral of the story. Don't eat at a restaurant that is rated 3.0 out of 5.0. There's a reason. Don't convince yourself to waste your time, and just see maybe if the steak has improved since the last customer.
