The technical assessment was to build an entire service with an API with 11 endpoints and additionally design and implement an AI integration. No starter repository was provided. I estimated this would take actually at least 1 week of work. When I provided my detailed estimates to the team lead (broken down to the level of hours for each task), he was dismissive in his response claiming things only took 1 min here, 5 min there, not 5 hours there. "Easily doable in a couple days of your free time". I worked 20 hours on the assessment and wasn't even half completed. I decided to withdraw my application, even after being offered an extension. They claimed they like to avoid crunch, while in the same sentence disclosing they had crunch over the weekend just this last week! Gee, I wonder why, if they can't even estimate the amount of time a take home assessment will take properly! Lol. This is probably exactly how they treat their developers too. Overall super negative, but illuminating experience. It was clear to me this company is all about quantity rather than quality, speed of release rather than careful planning, and burnout rather than work life balance.
