An early (and important in my opinion) question was where I begin with designs. Other questions followed along these lines, probing to see if I understood To analyze a given existing UI and make observations and suggestions about how to improve it, and how I would approach designing something like that.
There is a set of standard questions that interviewers are required to ask. They are pretty standards.

How efficiently you'll work for the given tasks?
What tools or processes do you use to work through to a design solution?
