they then showed me a proton NMR, carbon NMR and mass spec and I had to deduce the structure of the molecule. It was a disubstituted benzene, had to use the mass spec to determine a chloride was present due to 3:1 ratio. They asked me to retrosynthesise the compound. They then showed me another compound and asked me to retrosynthesise it.
What would you do if you disagreed with a more senior colleague?
They brought out a failed piece of machinery and asked me to try and analyse why it failed.
