Tech Lead Interview Questions

3,070 tech lead interview questions shared by candidates

In the HR screening interview, I was asked fairly typical questions such as, "What do you know about the company and its service?", "Why are you interested in this role?", etc. as far as I remember. In the second interview with the hiring manager, the conversation focused more on how I had approached certain challenges in the past and how I would tackle similar situations in the future. It was less about technical details and more about mindset, problem-solving style, and collaboration.

I struggled with their series of questions, which were not complex or overly challenging. The challenge due to the format- when they'd ask me a question "Tell me about time when...." and they'd immediately bury their face into their laptop and take rigorous notes (verbatim). This occurred with each in-person interviewer. My interview experience was very impersonal. I did not feel comfortable (at all). There was no dialogue- I'd be asked a question and then I would speak to the back of a laptop for 10+ minutes per question. There was no conversation- these interviewers would be my teammates, but they didn't give me a chance to get to know them. My Interview Questions Focused On: 1. Evaluating your thought processes and problem solving skills 2. Examples from your recruiting, business partnerships, and staffing programmatic experience (think of some wins as well as a few struggles and how faced each). We are very data driven at Google so any examples of how you used this skill set would be helpful. 3. Ability to influence and impact 4. Behavioral and hypothetical problem solving questions (please use specific examples and/or thought process) 5. Overall cultural fit-passion, drive, motivation, proactive-ness, what sets you apart--in personal and professional life
