Pros

Genuinely? You get paid, that was the only benefit from my time. I also acquired the ability to be extremely resilient to physical and mental discomfort.

Cons

Awful work life balance due to back to back late shifts and early morning shifts. Your shift end time (if working a close) is not a guarantee, as they are usually critically understaffed and don’t let you leave until all the relevant work is complete. This often resulted in finishing 1/2hrs later than expected. This company is the revolving door of all supermarkets. The staff turnover was immense. I watched management do nothing as a colleague I worked with suffered mistreatment and bullying. The staff had a tendency to be very ‘cliquey’. Your 20 minute breaks are timed. They work you like a pack horse, as their business model is based around efficiency. After working during the pandemic, the only thanks the staff got were a generic inscribed pen. The area management team were severely disconnected from reality, were really condescending and disingenuous whenever they visited the store. My mental health was at its absolute lowest during my brief time there. For the nightmare experience, the wages really aren’t high enough.

Pros

You get the first refusal of reduced food. Paid breaks. Can listen to music before the store opens. First pick of special buys. Free will writing service.

Cons

Monotonous work (it's like groundhog day, everyday). Constantly working with no letup. Only 30 mins break on a 10 hour shift. Labour intensive. Pay is overly complicated, Getting a thank you is a rarity. ZERO work life balance. Good luck getting a weekend off without having to use your holidays (unless you're management).

Flexibility (dependent on manager), above-industry average pay (including penalty rates) and exercise (moving your body around)

Cons

Workload - tight due to limited staff. Pay does not go up with experience.
