Pros

The pay is fantastic (storewide raise to $11 / hr starting salary for associates in USA recently from $10) plus paid time off, paid sick days, dental, vision and health insurance. But the work is as hard as the pay is good. Sometimes I am scheduled for 56 hours in a week (officially... that's the number of hours I am working on the week's schedule) and sometimes it's for 19 days in a row. It is performance-demanding work and if you are lazy or don't try the other employees will not like you because they have to do their work. If you have high energy, don't mind rude customers, and are always available, then this is one of the best-paying jobs you can get. Where else can a cashier in the USA make over $25,000 / year? NOWHERE!!! In fact, this is one of the highest paying jobs you can get that doesn't require a license or some sort of degree.

Cons

Working 19 days in a row. 56 hour weeks for everybody because someone quit. Not being able to get any time off because we have such a small staff that runs our store. One 30 minute break no matter how long your shift is. It is a HIGHLY STRESSFUL job and if you do not like *extremely* fast-paced, demanding things, then this job could easily ruin your life! You can't understand until you experience it. Quite often I find myself literally running around doing things because I have so many things to do and so little time, again literally sprinting around customers to go bail boxes, sprinting to the front of the store and checking out the backed up customers in the main cashier's line and cleaning up spills of marinara sauce.

The life of Aldi

Pros

Aldi is a store that requires a positive attitude, communication and teamwork skills. The pay is great for a grocery store.

Cons

Aldi is a very busy store and you are busy from the time you clock in till the time you clock out. Some people that are hired do not understand the physicality and how effective you have to be to work this job. With that being said Aldi sometimes have a high turnover rate when it comes to people being hired and quit. Aldi has to find a better hiring process to eliminating this which makes it for the current workers to do their job because of less people working.

Pros

Aldi pays well and the overall atmosphere makes you feel like your contribution matters. Also, great coworkers as well, makes your workday more enjoyable; never a dull moment.

Cons

Depending on who's your store manager, they set the tone of the store, you either love it or hate it. Also, upper management (district managers) are constantly breathing down your back. They lack actual experience in grocery retail most likely just got the job straight out of college, rather just have the "book smarts" for the job. Heard they don't like to promote from within with those positions. Could use room for better work/life balance; always feel like you're constantly on call. They don't believe in set schedules.
