Pros

Peers! There are good people at AMD....Just none are at the senior management position. Flexible work hours is great. If you are one of the many unfortunate people that need to interface with overseas manufacturing, you work hours will increase significantly (significant night time hours).

Cons

No hope of career advancement. Good performance is not rewarded. None existent review process and promotion guideline. If they exist, it is most certainly not followed. Only way to get promoted and rewarded is to be the "favorite" of senior management. A lot of focus is on trying to impress the senior management rather than what's more important. Lot of political "power struggle"

Pros

People are friendly, smart, and laid back. Most people arrive sometime before 9am, leave before 5pm. Working from home is an option for most. The work is fun, demanding and sometimes rewarding

Cons

Dismal economic standing, limited promotions within, lots of management changes. Lots of good people laid off has meant that a lot of work has been left undone over the last year. Many of these holes have been unfilled, meaning that required stuff just doesn't get done.

Pros

AMD has very innovative product designers creating the highest-performing processors in the industry, inexpensive gym access, working for the underdog, pays for continuing education, and has employee discount programs.

Cons

Lost in the masses, everything is outsourced including the recognition programs, doesn't understand what their target market needs or wants, doesn't understand software as an enabler of hardware, employees are treated more as an additional cost than an asset, no motivation to follow company-wide programs like 50x15 (50x15.amd.com), company seems top-heavy with at least 3 levels of Vice Presidents and lots of perks for being sr. management with no route to get there. Lots of bureaucracy, Director and above only show up to reprimand. Little communication from senior management to contributors, and even less communication between departments about business-changing developments and projects.
