Pros

The learning opportunities are a great asset to the firm. There are is a lot of knowledge within the firm and you have the opportunity to learn something new at each project. There is the opportunity to see how different sectors operate from a high-level.

Cons

Unless you love living out of a suitcase, eating out every night, and can put your life on hold for a career then you may want to think twice about any consulting firm. I feel a lot healthier physically and mentally after moving to a desk job. Besides the lack of a work/life balance, you will rarely have the opportunity to get on to the projects you want. Basically once admitted to the firm you have to find your own roles, which is a lot more challenging as an experienced hire. To get a project you need to build your own network and pretty much sell yourself to the project. This aspect of the firm was not clearly discussed during the interview process.

Pros

Accenture encourages you to be efficient and to excel. You get your hands on new technology and because it is an outsourcing company, you gain experience with a multitude of client environments. The company promotes process improvement, and encourages employees to get involved in training, volunteer work, and team-building initiatives. The company attracts some really great people.

Cons

The company is on an aggressive mission to move as much work to India and other low-cost countries as possible. They are top heavy in management, and short on leaders with direction. There is an abundance of managers, and the shrinking technical resources are forced to work to no end. True leaders are becoming hard to find here. Most employees must work while on PTO, or risk falling behind and failing.

Pros

Accenture is the place to go to start a career. They invest heavily in their individuals and work to get them up to speed through training and mentoring and career counseling. They build value in you so you are a value to clients.

Cons

As an enormous public company, we are prone to laws and regulations and oversight groups, but they are good because we stay in compliance and out of trouble as a corporation. My office location is small so we have a great community, other large cities are so big its hard to know anyone in your local area, especially if you're a traveling consultant. I do find that our management people who want to move up in ranks end up focused on sales more than delivery and will sell work w/o thought of the consequences of their current people or future project integrity
