Pros

Have very good guidelines as leadership principles for rookie engineers to develop herself. Plenty of opportunities are there to learn skills across the tech stack.

Cons

For engineer who stays in Amzon for 2+ years. The leadership principle guided culture may become more like a restriction than guidelines. And there are a lot if legacy services in the company which are burdens for engineers despite level.

Pros

Some AWS services have very interesting problems in distributed systems and scale.

Cons

Less than half the time is spent coding. The rest is ops and meetings. We focus too much on delivering new features with unrealistic deadlines and have to constantly deal with huge technical debt and ops.
