Pros

Specifically in the corporate realm, Amazon presents an exceptional opportunity to enhance your critical thinking abilities. It also provides a platform to broaden your knowledge base to unfamiliar subjects and challenge your intellectual limits by encountering big problems that require innovative solutions. Additionally, the immigration support from the company if you are a blue badge employee is one of a kind.

Cons

The promotion process within Amazon is arguably the most arduous and emotionally taxing aspect. It is heavily reliant on luck rather than merit, as individuals’ advancement from one level to another is not determined by their performance, achievements, or ability to demonstrate their readiness for the next position. The promotion criteria are subject to change quarterly, as they are not standardized and vary depending on the individual Vice President. For instance, one VP may decide that promotions should be based on a six-year tenure at the company, while another may prioritize promotions within the data analytics jobs, regardless of an individual’s exceptional performance and overachievement. This lack of consistency and emphasis on arbitrary criteria have a detrimental impact on employees’ mental health and well-being, yet leadership appears indifferent to these concerns and keeps adding whatever criteria they want every promotion cycle. The carrot on the stick is “we will see if we can consider you in the next cycle, know that you can always grow by learning new things”.
